Cavern diving – Cave diving – Cenote diving

Cave diving is an especially interesting variation of recreational diving, but one which is combined with increased risks. For scientists, it is a necessary requirement for a practical approach to speleology (the study of caves).

This branch of recreational diving refers to both “cave diving” and “cavern diving”:

■In cavern diving, the diver stays within the daylight zone of a cave or grotto. The exit is always within visual range.

■In cave diving, large cave systems are explored and researched. Divers can penetrate many kilometers deep into such cave system
