Gran Cenote, like Dos Ojos, has been well known for many years and is ideal for diving and snorkeling. It is located a few kilometers from Tulum on the Tulum-Coba road. It is part of the Sac Aktun system that for years was the longest underwater cave system (not anymore though) in the world. The Mayan name means ” white stone” and the difference from Dos Ojos is obvious. , Whereas the formations found in Dos Ojos have a brownish touch, Gran Cenote shines in very bright colours and this is increased by the many air pockets that mirror the stalactites breaking though the water’s surface.
